i'm back everthing works fine anybody out there can tell me why it is so difficult for me to relocate and live in okinawa. i have been to japan and okinawa many times, and now i'm retired from u.s.post office and would like to settle in okinawa for a long stay(2-3years) as a retiree and fish, practice karate and continue to explore the country i discovered in 1968 the first time. immigration laws are such that i must have a special talent or trade or whatever to stay longer than my 90 day tourist visa. anybody on this forum can give me some solid info on how to relocate. i have a pension and a clean record and many okinawa friends that will vouch for me. i am 54 yrs.old and travel alone. domo arigato, jim stamm

i've never heard that you needed some sort of profession to stay longer that 90 days. If you live in NY you should contact the Japanese Emmbassy affiliate in NY here's this info Consulate-General of Japan in New York (Area served: Connecticut - with zip codes beginning 068 and 069, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands) Consulate-General of Japan 299 Park Ave, 18th Floor New York NY 10171-0025 Tel: 212-371-8222 Fax: 212-319-6357 http://ny.cgj.org/index.html
and here's a link that explains more of how to go about living in japan for over 90 days:http://www.worldvillage.org/e/glf/aln.html hope this info helps.
