I was wondering since I live in metro NY there is mostly nothing that can really shock us (like gay people pretty much making out on trains, trans walking up the block like they own the place).
I brought this up because I did some looking up on what the gay life was like in japan (in real life) and it looks like its pretty non existent or underground or that being 'gay' for entertainers makes you more famous or used as a joke but for regular everyday people you still have to (or feel pressured to) stay in the closet so that you dont bring shame to your family. also it also looks like its easier for men to be gay than for women only because japan( for the most part) is still a male dominated contry. if this is the case why in manga/ anime they toy with gay/ lesbian like themes with like boys love or using two girls two kiss or whatever solely for pleasure and for nothing more. if you can read about it why are the clubs and stuff still mostly underground.
i know there's that political lady who came out and stuff but she and her partner cant be the only ones.
also are there transgendered people represented in japan and in a good light?

p.s. something on a different subject
i have heard that japan is trying to make a change on letting women have and be able to acheive more jobs in a management position but still at a slow rate. if i as a woman even in the next 10 or so years will i have to think about (when i go to japan, i plan to do some kind of work not sure what kind though) that i will have to work twice as hard or dumb myself down only so a guy can feel good about himself?
sorry to have to ask you usn these questions but your the only people who i know that could have some type of answer or who knew someone that could.
